"I suspect that the late John Arlott would have been appalled by the name of the publishers of The Vision Sings, a collection of his wise and witty sayings, but Toilet Books are at least up front about where they expect their products to be read. Apparently the publication has the approval of Arlott's son Tim, and it is extremely entertaining, a reminder of what a perceptive, witty and literate commentator and writer Arlott Snr could be. Here we have Ian Botham running in "like a shire horse cresting the breeze", Asif Masood, the Pakistani fast bowler, who "approaches the wicket like Groucho Marx chasing a pretty waitress", and Keith Miller being "like a cross between a Viking and an irresponsible schoolboy".
