Locke is not only the main intellectual founder of liberalism, but also of neoliberalism, the 'ruling idea' of the ruling class of today. This pamphlet examines the roots of primitive accumulation and Locke's role in forming these ideas.

Author George Caffentzis is associate professor in the Department of Philosophy, University of Southern Maine, USA. His publications include 'Exciting the Industry of Mankind: George Berkeley's Philosophy of Money' and 'Clipped Coins, Abused Words and Civil Government: John Locke's Philosophy of Money'.

This pamphlet was written for Bristol Radical History Group after George participated in Down with the Fences: The Struggle for the Global Commons in May 2008.
