Bristol Rovers Archive Volume 1: 1951-1991

by Keith Brookman

Bristol Rovers programme editor Keith Brookman and former club photographer Alan Marshall have delved into the Rovers' archives to uncover a wealth of pictures from the club's past which are now published for the first time in book form as The Bristol Rovers Archive Number 1: 1951-1991.

The images cover the beginning of the club's Golden Era at Eastville when Bert Tann became manager and follow Rovers to the end of another spell of success under Gerry Francis at Twerton Park. They include action shots and many behind-the-scene pictures from the training ground and from social events.

Details

Bristol Rovers programme editor Keith Brookman and former club photographer Alan Marshall have delved into the Rovers' archives to uncover a wealth of pictures from the club's past which are now published for the first time in book form as The Bristol Rovers Archive Number 1: 1951-1991.

The starting date is significant becasue it was the beginning of Rovers' most successful era. The club achieved their highest ever league positions with a squad assembled by Bert Tann at Eastville when Rovers finished sixth in the old Division Two in both 1955/56 and 1958/59. This part of the Bristol Rovers Archive finishes at the end of the Gerry Francis era at Twerton Park, a time when -out of adversity- Rovers produced on eof their best-ever teams.

Keith has researched every picture to provide a valuable insight into four decades of memorable games, players and managers at Eastville and Twerton Park. Some of the profiles have previously appeared in the matchday programme over a number of years.
