  • High on Rust: Ray Webber Selected Poems

    1 Review(s)

High on Rust is the debut collection of Bristol-based poet Ray Webber: at the tender age of 93!

Webber has been writing poetry since 1946, during his final year in the army. After leaving the army Webber studied literature and art in his spare time and became fascinated by the work of T.S. Eliot, Frank O'Hara, John Ashbery, Jean Paul Satre and Franz Kafka. Eliot, who Webber regards as the first great modernist, remains the single biggest influence on his literary taste.

The poems in this collection have been selected by poet and musician Steve Bush and date from the mid 1970s to the present day.

Michael Salter's first-hand account of the Bristol mod revival. Includes appendices by Bristol mods Eve Pearce and Geoff Rice, Steamers DJ Jerry Cripps and Jon Andrews, lead singer of Mayfair. Limitd edition signed copy.

Like many young people in the mid 70s Michael Salter adopted punk as his protest against ‘no future’ politics, dreary chart music and the pomp and excess of prog rock. But as the punk sub-culture split and evolved, Salter and his friends moved away from the spiky haired shock tactics to the sharp-suited, 1960s retro-style of the mods.
