Originally published in 2002 by Hedonist Books in an edition of just 1000, these are the last remaining signed copies by artist and author Stanley Donwood. Catacombs Of Terror was a result of a £5 bet between Donwood and his then partner in crime Simon Rigby (aka Ambrose Blimfield) that Donwood couldn’t write a 50,000-word pulp fiction novel in 30 days.
The result is a story in which hard-boiled, tough-talking private investigator Martin Valpolicella receives a note that sends him on a mission that is so bizarre he can’t believe it. And neither with you.
Valpolicella uncovers a powerful, elite sect that perform strange rituals in caves beneath Bath. The caves are inhabited by flesh eating pigs. There’s a girl to be saved and one of the most flimsy plots in the history of literature.
The book is printed on tree-free hemp, which is very expensive and therefore the point size is small in order to save on hemp.
An oddity and a collector’s item for Donwood admirers.
